Face Shape is the second Body Element of the 5 Body Element System. It’s another Body Element, like Body Shape, which women know about; however they don’t understand the design line clues it gives them.
Like in my last post, Body Shape–The Girls, you’ll learn about each girl’s Face Shape. When I learned about the clues my face shape gave me, the light in a dark room was lit. I learned why certain design lines worked for me and others didn’t.
Face Shape
To determine your Face Shape look at your:
Forehead
Cheeks
Chin
Length vs width of your face
Just like Body Shape, this Body Element has two categories:
Angular — The lines around the forehead, cheeks and chin are angular
Curved — The lines around the forehead, cheeks and chin are curved
Go to Face Shape to determine your shape and which category it falls into.
Clues
This Body Element gives you three clues relating to design lines:
Inside design lines
Prints
Accessories
When the shape of your face falls into the angular category you want the inside design lines, prints and accessories you wear to be angular. On the other hand, if the shape of your face falls into the curved category you want the inside design lines, prints and accessories you wear to be curved.
Examples of inside design lines are:
Collars
Lapels
Pockets
Cuffs
Plackets
When looking at the print shape, look at the overall shape or feel. Many print designers mix these shapes.
As with print shape, look at the overall shape or feel of an accessory’s shape because designers mix the shapes.
Face Shape -- Sam
The shape of Sam’s face is oval. This shape falls into the curved category. Notice how her hairline curves around her forehead. This helped her determine that the shape of her face is oval.

Sam’s oval face falls into the curved category so she’ll look for inside design lines, prints and accessories that are curved. Now she understands why she loves to wear jackets and sweaters with a shawl collar. In the future she’ll keep her eye out for curved design lines.
Face Shape -- Monica
Since Monica’s face has a pear shape it falls into the curved category. As a result, she will look for inside design lines, prints and accessories which have an overall curved shape. Monica’s favorite prints are poke-a-dot and paisley. She now knows why she loves to wear these prints.
